Who is this?
Shooting my shots on film.
Occasionally dancing with a compact.
Sometimes with a disposable.
Might take my canon out for a spin.
My entire childhood was spent countless hours, barefoot, surrounded by men and boys, shoulder to shoulder, barging and tackling, making footballs out of tennis balls, water bottles, and shoes as goalposts. I skipped lunch to save money for footballs and spent late nights in front of the television - dreaming that someday, I too would get to experience the sheer joy that runs through the course of your veins when the ball hits the back of the net. That collective understanding of the experience. Some believed, some dismissed.
I did not have a father who would take me to watch football matches during the weekend, or a mother who understood the significance of a derby. But, I do have a father who for some reason believed in everything I wanted to do and a mother who cheered me on despite her lack of apprehension. And so, I picked up my camera and went off to chase shadows and people, scarves and flags, to chase a feeling of inclusion in a crowd, which I longed for so dearly.
What started out as a love letter to football and film has taken me to places I would have never imagined. And so, here we are now.
The idea is not just to capture people but to immerse the viewer in the emotions and sentiments of the subject. In doing so, even if you are a thousand miles away, you can still feel the story.
Welcome to this webpage/ portfolio/ visual experience or whatever you want to call it. I hope the photos do justice to the people and their emotions in their sacred place.
To the people that have allowed me to capture them, thank you.
